Voluntary Sector News 

EYST Forum 27th July 2022 

The EYST All Wales Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Engagement Programme is hosting a forum on the issues and challenges experienced by Older People from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in Wales. The Forum will take place virtually on Wednesday 27th July 2022, 10am – 11:30am.

New Memory Café in Whitchurch 

A new Memory Café is opening in  Whitchurch, starting on Wednesday 3rd August.

C3SC Cost of Living Crisis Survey

This survey is still live. Please respond to our short  Cost of living Crisis survey, it takes only 5 minutes! We know that rising costs are a concern for our members and communities. We’d like to hear your thoughts and experiences on how the rising cost of living and fuel are impacting on you – our members – and the people you are there to support. We will use the details you share with us to shape our services and  priorities and influence decisions on how the voluntary sector can be supported to best meet local need.

KESS Project Online Survey is Now Live – Mapping and Evaluating The Voluntary Youth Work Sector for Wales

A new and exciting project to map and evaluate the Voluntary Youth Work Sector in Wales has been launched. 

Cardiff FoodCycle Project Opens

FoodCycle is a place where week in, week out people from all backgrounds come together and share delicious meals made from surplus food.

Age Cymru Carers Survey 

Age Cymru has launched a carers survey to learn more about older (50+) unpaid carers’ experiences. From the kind of support they receive, to the top three things that would make their life as a carer easier. 

ASIST and safeTALK Suicide Intervention Workshops in Cardiff

ASSIST is a two day, interactive training workshop that prepares participants in suicide first aid interventions. Advocacy Support Cymru has workshops scheduled throughout the year.

Bowel Cancer UK

Bowel Cancer UK know that there is increased interest and questions about bowel cancer and bowel screening within communities following the recent media coverage of Dame Deborah James (Patron and bowel cancer patient). There are many resources that are available to support the Wales community.

Human Rights of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities – Legal Opinion 

The Good Law Project has commissioned legal opinion on the current state of UK law and human rights of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.

Preventing Youth Violence in Cardiff Workshop

Over the last 6 to 8 months Citizens Cymru Wales has been working with a core group of active leaders across Butetown and Grangetown on a Listening Campaign linked to Preventing Youth Violence in Cardiff. Workshops on this are taking place in July and in September (click the link to each workshop)

NASP Webinar 19 July

National Academy for Social Prescribing has organised a webinar as a celebration of the Thriving Communities Fund on Tuesday 19 July.

The Centre for Youth Impact Survey 

The Centre for Youth Impact is conducting a survey to understand how organisations support young people to influence the decision-making of others. The survey is running 01 June – 14 August. If you are an organisation who helps young people to engage in decision-making or supports them to influence others, then this survey is for you.

Unpaid Carers Charter Consultation Open 

Cardiff and Vale Integrated Health and Social Care Partnership has prepared a draft Unpaid Carers Charter.

Wales First Digital Summit, 27th September 2022 

The first Digital Summit in Wales takes place on Tuesday 27th September 2022 at the Life Sciences Hub, Cardiff from 9am – 2pm. The event will explore how health, care and voluntary sectors can work together effectively for greater equity of access and digital inclusion for the people of Wales.

Helping a Friend Video 

An animation has been produced on how young people can help their friends who are struggling with emotional wellbeing.

Cardiff Young Person’s Citizen Panel

A Young Person’s Citizen Panel is being created, made up of young people from across Cardiff who agree to give their views on a number of consultation topics throughout the year. Panel members share their views by completing surveys and occasionally taking part in other activities like focus groups, workshops, or forums. By signing up they will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher, deadline for this is the 31st July 2022.

Power to Young People: Cardiff Influencers Programme 2022

The Cardiff Influencers Programme 2022 is an opportunity designed to enable Young People aged 13-14 to become directly involved in shaping strategy and influence how Cardiff Council will invest in education across Cardiff over the next 10 years.

A new report from Public Health Wales has found that the gap in life expectancy between those living in the least and most deprived areas in Wales is increasing.

Carers Wales has published new research, which shows the rising pressures that unpaid carers are currently facing.

Samaritans Cymru – Resource Launch: Finding Your Way – A Guide for Anyone Who is Struggling to Cope 

Following an unprecedented period of disruption and uncertainty, we know that many people have experienced trauma and poor mental health. The pandemic has widened inequalities for many people in Wales and those who were vulnerable at the beginning are now facing higher levels of distress than ever before. In this context Samaritans Cymru has launched a resource – Finding Your Way, a guide for those struggling to cope.

Grants Open for Good Food Cardiff Autumn Festival 

Food Cardiff is offering small grants of £50 – £150 to enable Not-for-Profit groups to host events or activities as part of the Festival.  The 3rd annual Good Food Cardiff Autumn Festival will run from 10th September until 16th October 2022.
