Launch:  Theatre Diversity Action Plan (Wales) – BECTU

BECTU (a sector of Prospect) is the trade union that represents behind the scenes workers in Theatre, Live Events, TV, Film and Digital Media.

Come and join us for the launch of BECTU’s Theatre Diversity Action Plan (Wales) to be held at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay on Tuesday June 18th from 12.00 – 13.30.

It’s clear that insufficient progress has been made across the UK to make theatre more diverse either on stage and backstage.

The UK Plan was launched in 2018 with almost 100 organisations signing up. Sadly only one from Wales (compared to 17 in Scotland). We are now urging theatres and arts organisations based in Wales to sign up to BECTU’s Action Plan.

Please email [email protected] if you want to sign up

The initial Action Plan focusses on Black and Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) people, however it is relevant to all under-represented groups.

Key Speakers:

Dafydd Elis Thomas – Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Welsh Government; Suzanne Packer – Actor; Kully Thiarai – Artistic Director, National Theatre Wales; Uzo Iwobi, CEO, Race Council Cymru; MC:  Janice Turner – Diversity Officer BECTU’s Black Members Committee

Who should attend: (Welcome to all)

Our aim is for the launch to be an accessible and interactive event that welcomes employers, organisations and individuals (from the creative sector, BAME communities, other diversity/equality foucssed organisations, influencers and interested parties) to join together in celebrating Wales’ diversity and in committing to a more inlusive and diverse workforce across our theatres and wider creative sector in the future.  Please bring business cards and contact information so that you can keep in touch with people following the event.

If you would like to bring along information/resources that will support the Diversity Action Plan or require further information please email: [email protected]   *Tell your friends / colleagues

Mae’n amlwg na wnaed digon o gynnydd ar draws y DU i wneud theatr yn fwy amrywiol boed ar y llwyfan neu yng nghefn y llwyfan.

Lansiwyd Cynllun y Deyrnas Gyfunol yn Llundain yn 2018 gyda bron i 100 o sefydliadau’n cofrestru. Yn anffodus, dim ond un o Gymru (o’i gymharu â 17 o’r Alban). Rydym bellach yn annog theatrau a sefydliadau celfyddydol yng Nghymru i ymuno â Chynllun Gweithredu BECTU. Anfonwch e-bost at [email protected] os ydych chi eisiau cofrestru.

Mae’r Cynllun cychwynnol yn canolbwyntio ar bobl Dduon ac Asiaidd Lleiafrifoedd Ethnig (BAME), ond mae’n berthnasol i bob grŵp heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol.
