Community Pathways: Substance Misuses Project

C3SC has been awarded funding by the Regional Partnership Board to engage with community groups and organisations across Cardiff that are supporting people dealing with substance misuse.

We are particularly keen to work/collaborate with small grassroots organisations and groups and engage with their service users.

What do we want to achieve?

  • Enhance conversations with individuals with a substance use disorder who have not been identified through mainstream referral pathways and are dealing with substance misuse on their own.
  • Identify gaps in the existing service provision and increase the parity of access to prescribing services across the region, particularly for people from traditionally disadvantaged and excluded communities/groups.

How do we want to achieve that?

By facilitating conversations with individuals and groups to explore:

  • What services are available?
  • Is the treatment on offer responding to people’s needs, and can people easily access it?
  • What is working well and what is not?
  • What barriers (e.g., homelessness, language, waiting times, and lack of knowledge about the existing services) are people experiencing?
  • Do people receive holistic and person-centred care from services?
  • How are people, their families, and those around them safeguarded?
  • What happens when people move on from treatment?
  • How well are services led and managed?

How much funding is available?

We will fund a total of six organisations to engage in this work; each organisation will be awarded £2,250.00 to undertake the engagement activities.

What will the successful community groups and organisations be required to do?

  1. Attend a workshop on either 11 or 12 March to discuss the engagement activities to be undertaken and an end-of-project report.
  2. Organise at least one two-hour-long focus group with 12-15 participants per group between 12 March and 4 April.
  3. Engage a further 12-15 individuals on a one-to-one basis (conversation or a survey) between 12 March and 4 April.
  4. Maintain contact with C3SC through this period and keep C3SC updated on the progress.
  5. Submit a written report about engagement activities to C3SC by 9 April.

What happens after the project ends?

The project findings will be communicated to the Regional Partnership Board, which has identified substance misuse as one of the priority areas, and to the C3SC strategic partners.
