Third sector organisations can now apply for a Period Poverty Grant via Cardiff Council.
The grant’s purpose is to provide free period products to those who menstruate, prioritising those from low income households, free of charge and accessible in the most practical and dignified way possible. There is a big emphasis on the use of eco-friendly/reusable/plastic free products where a requirement of a minimum of 70% of the total grant award be spend on eco-friendly/reusable/plastic free products. The grant also has an initiative where 5% of the grant award may also be spent on educational material such as first time user guides etc.
The grant is strictly limited to:
- Sanitary towels
- Tampons
- Sanitary disposal bags
- Storage purses and wet bags
- Underwear and tights
Non Eligible costs:
- Storage costs for holding the period products
- Hot water bottles, blankets and skin care for homeless people
- General wash products including shower gel, soap, deodorant and dental products
- Non Eco Friendly Hygiene Wipes
- Sanitary Disposal Bins
This grant is open to applications up to 1st March 2024.
