Good Life Alliance want this event to bring people together around practical ideas for the future of learning disability across Wales. With people with learning disabilities and autistic people, families, and professionals from different areas, this event aims:
- To remind everyone why it is so important to work with urgency to ensure people with learning disabilities and autistic people are not deprived of a good life (as they define it) because of laws, policies and systems that need to change.
- To take forward the top two recommendations from the Stolen Lives “Homes Not Hospitals” Report:
1. Stop the inhumane detention of people with learning disabilities and autistic people in secure hospitals.
2. Improve services so we can prevent admission and get people out.
- To support and strengthen the Welsh Government’s new Learning Disability Transformation Programme – especially the following workstreams:
1. Developing models of integrated community care
2. Improving specialist inpatient services and pathways
3. Strengthening housing and accommodation support so that more people can live safely and well, as close to home as possible.
- To share ideas and experiences about the values, services and systems that are needed.
- To identify barriers and how these might be removed.
- If possible, to identify key data requirements (numbers that it would be useful to know).
What is gathered from this event will be fed into the Welsh Government workstreams under the Transformation Programme.
