Youth Mental Health First Aid (Wales) is for everybody. It is particularly relevant for those who work with adolescents and may come into contact with young people at risk of experiencing mental distress.
Course Aims:
YMHFA (Wales) aims to help participants:
• Preserve life where a young person may be a danger to themselves or others
• Provide help to prevent mental distress developing into a more serious state
• Promote recovery of good mental health
• Provide comfort to a young person experiencing mental distress
The course covers:
Mental Health First Aid
Common mental health problems
Depression
Anxiety disorders
Psychosis
Substance use disorders
Eating disorders
Non-fatal deliberate self-harming behaviour
NB All topics are regarding young people.
Participants will learn:
The signs and symptoms of these mental health problems
Where and how to get help
What sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
