Based at Chapter, a welcoming arts centre in Cardiff, Coming Home aims to bridge the gap between civilian and military worlds by creating opportunities for the wider community to hear and understand the experiences of veterans and their families.

WHAT:

Coming Home is a 10-week theatre-based programme for ex-service personnel and family members who are struggling with the transition to civilian life. Coming Home will enable veterans and their loved ones, both recently returned and those who have left the service in the past, to explore the barriers to transition in a supportive group environment.

WHO FOR:

Veterans and family members affected by mental health and issues related to the transition back to civilian life.

WHEN:

Once a week between Sept and Nov 2015 (10-week programme) Thursdays (family members of veterans) Fridays (veterans).

TASTER SESSION:

Thurs 16th July 11am at Chapter, Cardiff (family members of veterans)

Fri 17th July 11am at Chapter, Cardiff (veterans)

Coming Home will:

  • Invite veterans and family members of veterans to share their stories and experiences of coming home from conflict in a supportive group environment.
  • Use a creative, groupwork approach to explore what individuals need from their communities to help with the process of coming home.
  • Seek to develop skills and problem solving to improve wellbeing, build confidence and reduce isolation for veterans and family members.
  • Culminate in an event at Chapter where veterans and family members will share their stories and experiences with an invited audience with the aim of raising awareness and informing future service provision.
