C3SC’s inaugural Cardiff Community Gathering was a great success. Held at the Hive, St Mellons on 2nd July and opened by our CEO Sheila Hendrickson-Brown, the event gave members and partners an opportunity to come together to discuss and share ideas about how to work together better to understand and meet the needs of people and communities.
We were delighted to be joined by Sarah Griffiths of The Hive who shared an inspiring account of the history of the building and its development into a place that is valued and is making differences in the lives of the local community.
Over 60 people joined us from a range of local groups for our community development and planning workshops on good governance, funding and support, volunteering and health & wellbeing. We were pleased to also be joined by funders – including Joe Redmond who shared updates from the National Lottery on current funding opportunities with a chance for members to connect further and ask questions – as well as Public Health Wales, Cardiff Council and other supporters.
The event also included time for our members to network and connect with other groups based in Cardiff’s third sector, and the great feedback generously shared by attendees reflected positive support for opportunities to share good practice and to learn from others, with attendees sharing comments such as
“If the opportunity arises again, I would love to work closely with charities from my own sector, as we share the same priorities and face similar challenges” , and
“Such meetings should be organized every three months, to share ideas and discuss any new developments in the third sector.”
Look out for our Event Report, and meanwhile our sincere thanks to Wales & West Housing for their kind and generous sponsorship, The Hive for hosting us, our staff and volunteers, and to everyone who attended.
