Supporting Growth at Leckwith Droves Allotments

Cardiff Third Sector Council (C3SC) is proud to have supported Leckwith Droves Allotments Association to unlock the potential of this much-loved community green space. Located near Cardiff City Stadium, the site is home to over 200 allotment plots, offering residents opportunities to grow food, improve wellbeing and enjoy a peaceful escape from city life.

Like many allotment sites, Leckwith Droves faced challenges with overgrown plots and a long waiting list of local residents keen to get growing. With limited capacity to tackle large-scale clearance work, the committee approached C3SC for support. Through our volunteering services, C3SC helped the group develop volunteering policies and facilitated corporate volunteering days, connecting them with Admiral Insurance.

Over the winter months, volunteer teams helped clear neglected plots, supported by the provision of a skip to remove large volumes of waste. As a result, cleared plots have already been re-let and are being transformed into productive growing spaces once again.

These plots now have new tenants working them and they will turn from neglected land to purposefully cultivated land which was my vision for these days. The waste removal has given these new tenants a big help forward with their progress.

Building on this success, C3SC is now supporting Leckwith Droves to develop long-term volunteer roles and promote opportunities through Volunteering-Wales, helping ensure the site continues to thrive for years to come.
