Following the success of the first Cardiff Council/C3SC Warm Spaces small grant, which saw 26 organisations benefiting from the funding to provide relief to the impact of the cost of living by offering a warm welcome space, we have distributed further funding enabling 15 additional warm spaces projects. The grant provides a range of open spaces, providing much needed connections, warmth, food, as well as money saving information and advice. Groups benefiting from the grant have also seen additional benefits and are making relevant connections, as per some of the quotes below:
“We have been so very grateful for the grant we were awarded to enable us to welcome our community into a warm space over this winter.“ – Llanishen Evangelical Church
“In addition to the funded project itself, the grant has inspired the church to undertake further activities of its own, for example, we are actively investigating the possibility of setting up a Community Fridge Project, and we are supporting a Foodbank in Penrhys. The Project has raised awareness of the challenges that people are facing in our community and inspired further action.” – Beulah URC
“We find that people are enjoying just a hot drink and food in the company of others and a background of music much more than was anticipated. Loneliness is retreating and friendships are being formed, having a positive impact on health and enabling people to forget their worries about affordable utilities for a little while.” – Splott Community Volunteers
Furthermore, in addition to the 13 Food Poverty projects awarded in December, we have distributed further £22,500 from the UHB to fund 9 groups to run Move More Eat Well projects that aim at improving health in the community by making physical activity and healthy eating more accessible to all.
