Prevent in Cardiff and what they can offer you!

Share this article

Prevent is the Government’s strategy to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, the strategy has three objectives:

Objective 1: Respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat we face from those who promote it.

Objective 2: Prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure that they are given appropriate advice and support.

Objective 3: Work with sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation that we need to address.

As a Prevent Team we implement these objectives through initiatives such as resilience lessons with teenagers in schools, supporting parents and local groups to recognise the early signs of radicalisation, or something as simple as providing a safe space for groups to discuss their shared values to encourage community cohesion.  Whatever the method, the driving purpose of Prevent is SAFEGUARDING.  The risks of someone vulnerable being groomed into radicalisation should be treated the same way and offered the same support as someone at risk of involvement with gangs, drugs, violence, etc.

A message from Andrew Jones- Prevent Community Engagement officer;

As the Prevent Community Engagement Officer, I see working with local voluntary groups and the Third Sector as vital to ensuring the most vulnerable in society are safeguarded from radicalisation and extremism.  You and I, in partnership, are instrumental in increasing understanding of Prevent and knowing what support is available to all residents of Cardiff and the wider area.

I am here to raise awareness and understanding of matters relating to Prevent all of which is available to you free of charge; I can train your staff, present/talk at events or functions (virtual or physical), be a regular contact at the end of the phone/email for any questions you may have big or small, or point you in the right direction of what other support is out there from Cardiff Council.

Furthermore, I can advise, support and facilitate bids for Home Office funding for projects that would address the main objectives of Prevent and I would remain with you throughout the whole project development and delivery.

If you are interested in free training, presentations or want to know more about bidding and commissioning for Home Office funding for projects, then please do not hesitate to contact me on the email address below.
