Period Poverty Grant to aid low-income households in the Cardiff local authority area

“In the UK, 1 in 10 girls can’t afford to buy menstrual products, while 1 in 7 have struggled to afford them, according to a representative survey of 1,000 girls and young women aged 14-21 In the UK, 1 in 10 girls can’t afford to buy menstrual products, while 1 in 7 have struggled to afford them.”

What’s the funding for?

The funding is to ensure period dignity for those who menstruate from low-income households in the Cardiff local authority area. The fund aims to ensure low-income households have access to free of charge period products that are accessible in the most practical and dignified way possible.

What can the money be spent on?

You can buy and distribute.

  • Sanitary Products – tampons, sanitary towels, menstrual cups, reusable sanitary knickers or suitable alternatives
  • Sanitary disposal bags
  • Storage purses / wet bags for use with reusable products
  • Clothing to be provided where a homeless person does not have a change of clean clothing available and menstrual bleeding has stained or soiled clothing.

We do have to spend a minimum of 70% of the total amount on purchase eco-friendly period products (i.e. re-usable products and/or plastic free). These can be bought online or even at your local shopping centre.

These can be;

  • Biodegradable sanitary towels
  • Period Knickers
  • Reusable sanitary towels
  • And much more…

We do have to spend 5% of the total amount on educational materials items and material for the reusable and eco-friendly period products. There can be bought online or even at your local shopping centre.

These can be;

  • Start kit packs including education material
  • Posters
  • Leaflets
  • And more…

We will be providing you with some information fact sheet if you wish to create your own starter packs. These can also be placed in female areas in the form of posters.
