As part of #StudentVolunteeringWeek which runs from 10-16 February 2025, the Volunteer Centre team were delighted to catch up with Cameron Jones, a nominee in the Young Volunteer of the Year award category at last year’s Cardiff Volunteer Awards #CVA2024! Cameron is a proud student volunteer at AP Cymru – The Neurodiversity Charity. Today, we share with you his journey into volunteering and any advice he’d like to offer to other young people.
- What inspired you to start volunteering?
I started noticing my volunteering was making a difference when I started being Cwtch the Bear (AP Cymru’s Charity Mascot) as everyone around had huge smiles on their face once they saw me. - What advice would you give to other students considering volunteering?
Go for it, it’s the best fun on earth, you have nothing to lose and people will appreciate what you do. - How do you see your role as a volunteer evolving in the future?
Staying as a volunteer as I grow up would be amazing and I want to continue to support AP Cymru for as long as I can. - What are your future career goals, and how might your volunteer experience help you achieve them?
My future goals would be to become a barber with a focus on neurodivergent children and my volunteer experience I know will help me achieve that. I hope to also share my experiences with other young people who may be doing volunteer work so that we can share ideas and our experiences as a volunteer.
The team would like to thank Cameron for sharing his story with us and look forward to hearing more about his volunteering journey in the future! If you’d like to start your own journey into volunteering, please get in touch with the Volunteer Centre team – we’d be more than happy to help. Email volunteer@c3sc.org.uk or call 02920 485 722.
