Nation of Sanctuary Awards

As part of Refugee Week Wales 2019, the Welsh Refugee Council and Welsh Refugee Coalition in support of the Welsh Government will be hosting, what we think is Wales’ first ever Nation of Sanctuary Awards.


Monday July 15th, 2019

The ceremony aims to recognise and bring awareness to the wonderful contributions, asylum seekers and refugees make to Wales and help us take another step towards making Wales a Nation of Sanctuary.



Nomination are now open for the following categories of awards

  • English Language Learner Award: Individual or a group of learners.
  • Welsh Language Learner Award: Individual or a group of learners. Sponsored by Welsh Language Commission
  • Volunteer Award: a volunteer or group of volunteers, volunteering their time.
  • Art Award: Individual or group working in the arts that benefits asylum seekers and refugees. Sponsored by Arts Council of Wales
  • Innovation Award – Any group doing amazing and thought-provoking work with asylum seekers and refugees.
  • Entrepreneur Award: Individual who have move on to own a business or developing a new business or enterprise idea. Sponsored by Federation of Small Business
  • Woman of the Year Award:  A woman asylum seeker or refugee who exemplifies great resilience, courage and commitment. Sponsored by Oxfam Cymru
  • Leader of the Future Award: A young asylum seeker or refugee who has undertaken inspiring work over the last year.
