Kindness will take you a long way – Autism Globe Celebrate a Life-Changing 12 Months

A charity supporting families with autistic children set up by four mums celebrated their first year in January 2026 – with some amazing feedback from the families themselves.

C3SC were delighted to be invited to Autism Globe’s celebration of their 1-year anniversary last month at Butetown Community Centre. The group was supported to set up in 2025 with advice and help from Thomas Crockett, C3SC’s Development Officer after they approached C3SC with a vision.

The Cardiff-based charity supports families with autistic children, and was set up by four mums – Hodan, Maniyah, Sahra and Ummalkhayr who came together to provide a much needed service following lived experiences of their own.

C3SC has been proud to support this amazing group – and follow up on their journey since their initial set-up. Thomas Crockett said, ‘The mums approached us with an inspiring vision of what they wanted to achieve. We helped the group constitute themselves as a small charity, then supported them to pull down their first ever grant of £3,750 from C3SC’s Unpaid Carers scheme’.

The fund allowed the group to enhance their support to parents by covering venue hire costs, refreshments, transport, children’s activities and bringing in expert speakers.

The Trustees are running the group on a totally voluntary basis, whilst also holding down full time jobs and bringing up autistic children of their own. The monthly sessions share information on other support available to parents and provide autism friendly sessions for kids at soft play centres in the city. One year on, Autism Globe has grown and now supports around 60 families, providing coffee mornings, drop-in sessions, phone service, and workshops among the children’s play sessions.

The celebration was a powerful testament to the group’s success, drawing a strong crowd of supporters to witness the tangible difference their work is making. The highlight of the event was a series of moving testimonials from service users, which underscored just how vital this project has become to the well-being of families and carers of autistic children.

One mother said, ‘Autism Globe have changed my life. It’s the best thing that happened to me this year. Shukran!’ A parent carer said: “I was looking forward to tonight during all the school holidays. It literally was the only break I had’, whilst another summarised a coffee morning with AP Cymru as follows, ‘Firstly, there was such a supportive atmosphere giving a feeling of release. Secondly, you gave hope that there is help available.’

Thomas continued, ‘It has been absolutely wonderful to see the group develop – they have achieved so much and supported so many people in the last twelve months. The feedback showed the hugely positive impact they are having in their community. Autism Globe are community heroes and we are so proud to have them as members of C3SC.’

As one Trustee put it, ‘Kindness will take you a long way’.

C3SC extends its warmest congratulations to Autism Globe on reaching this incredible milestone. It was an honor to celebrate their success and the profound impact they’ve made in such a short window of time. We look forward to catching up again in the near future as they continue to evolve and be part of our inspiring voluntary sector in Cardiff.
