This event will look at some of the challenges and opportunities in relation to the new duty set out in the current Housing Bill, looking in particular at the following themes:
– New Duty – Setting the context (Challenges and Opportunities)
– Accommodation Needs Assessments in Practice
– Engaging with members and WLGA guidance
– Planning consultations – learning from the experiences of supported housing
– Work of Bridges project in tackling discrimination and prejudice against Gypsies and Travellers in Merthyr Tydfil
– Opportunity to learn from Home Space Sustainable Accommodation and Rooftops housing group about experiences from England
– Engagement with Gypsies and Travellers
Confirmed speakers include: John Davies, Gypsy and Traveller Legislation and Consultation Manager, Jane Hurn, Home Sustainable Accommodation, Teresa Crew, Bangor University, Bryn Hall, Unity Project, Lillie Bramley, Bridges, Trudy Aspinwall, Save the Children, Anna Morgan, Equalities Training Adviser, WLGA.
Chaminda Seneviratne as secretary of the Cross-Party Group on Gypsies and Travellers will also be launching a report ‘Promoting Social Cohesion between the Gypsy and Traveller Community and settled community’ on behalf of Julie Morgan (AM) at the event.
This half day seminar will be of interest to local authority housing strategy officers, environmental health officers, development officers, housing associations interested in learning more about potential for developing and managing sites, Gypsy and Traveller liaison officers, third sector organisations and other interested parties who wish to find out more about the topic or are currently engaged with working with Gypsy and Traveller Communities.
