New financial powers for Wales – financial briefing for the third sector

9th September 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Delivered by Georgina Haarhoff, Tax Policy and Legislation, Welsh Government
The Wales Act 2014 devolves tax-raising powers to the National Assembly for Wales for the first time. The Act devolves Stamp Duty Land Tax and Landfill Tax to Wales, marking an important step in the devolution journey, as Wales gains greater financial autonomy.

Welsh Government is keen to consult with the third sector as plans develop, and there is an opportunity to help shape what should be transposed from UK law; and what should change to reflect distinctive Welsh circumstances.

This free seminar will provide:
• An introduction to the new tax-raising and borrowing powers, and the new Land Transaction Tax and Landfill Disposals Tax
• An opportunity to discuss whether a proportion of Landfill Disposals Tax revenue should be used to enhance community wellbeing, and if so, how this could work
• An overview of how to engage with the developing legislation and implementation of these new powers
