Introduction to Benefits 2013

Never has there been a time before, when the UK welfare benefit system was so confusing and complicated, with so many radical changes being proposed and implimented.

This Train on the Tracks one-day introductory course has been designed to enable delegates to recognise and understand the purpose of the most commonly claimed benefits, focusing on jobseekers and incapacity for work, the social fund, housing benefit and Disability Living Allowance changes.

If you want help to introduce and form a model of the benefits system that is manageable and simple, this is the course is for you.
   

Course content:

– simple method of clarity, around contributory, universal, means-tested and earnings replacement benefits, including benefit maximisation
– detailed look at Income Support, income based Jobseekers Allowance and income related Employment & Support Allowance, including an understanding of premiums and joint claims.
– Housing Benefit (including Local Housing Allowance changes)
– discretionary Social Fund including Crisis Loans, Budgeting Loans and Community Care Grants
– Disability Living Allowance and the new Personal Independence Payment
– Welfare reform and benefit changes 2012-14 onwards

   

Methods of delivery:

Delegates are supplied with a course companion containing comprehensive reference material for future use. The day is broken up by a series of exercises focussing on each of the areas covered, and the trainer employs visual aids and prompts to ensure the complexity of the subject is communicated in a user-friendly way

   

Learning outcomes:

– To gain knowledge of how to claim the correct benefits, including maximisation
– Delegates will form an understanding of the common qualifying rules and problems claiming different benefits
– Delegates will be better equipped to advise and support clients as to how to make effective claims for the most popular benefits available
– Understanding the proposed changes to housing benefit and their impact on claimants, including an overview of the current welfare reform programme
