Course specification: This course would be suitable for anyone with no or very little knowledge about counselling skills. 

It will cover the following:
 

• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Social Network Behavioural Therapy
• The core conditions, counselling skills models, fundamentals of the helping process and use of skills
• How to construct a counselling session
• Issues around boundaries and self awareness
• How to use a counselling session to bring about change
• Skill building and practice sessions
   

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course participants should be able to: 

• Define the different counselling models and what counselling skills are
• Outline the ethical issues, the limitations of the use of counselling skills and the need for support
• Discuss issues around self-awareness and formulate clear boundaries
• Explore conversation management, structure and time keeping
• Examine what is meant by ‘enabling change’
• Skills Practice
