Exploring counselling skills
This NewLink Wales course has been written to meet the needs of practitioners who work with vulnerable people, people who are distressed or need to bring about change in their life. It is suitable for anyone with no or very little knowledge about counselling skills.
Voluntary Sector WORKERS – £155.00
Statutory Sector WORKERS – £165.00
This includes facilitation, hand-outs, refreshments and a buffet lunch.
Course specification: This course would be suitable for anyone with no or very little knowledge about counselling skills.
It will cover the following:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Social Network Behavioural Therapy
- The core conditions, counselling skills models, fundamentals of the helping process and use of skills
- How to construct a counselling session
- Issues around boundaries and self awareness
- How to use a counselling session to bring about change
- Skill building and practice sessions
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course participants should be able to:
- Define the different counselling models and what counselling skills are
- Outline the ethical issues, the limitations of the use of counselling skills and the need for support
- Discuss issues around self-awareness and formulate clear boundaries
- Explore conversation management, structure and time keeping
- Examine what is meant by ‘enabling change’
- Skills Practice
