This Welsh Women’s Aid course will assist officers working within the Domestic Abuse sector learn how to refer domestic abuse victims to the most relevant local services. This course will enable staff to:

– Recognise and respond to the signs of domestic abuse.

– Understand the barriers faced when ‘asking the question’ and managing response to a disclosure.

– Identify a victim’s level of risk using the CAADA Domestic Abuse Stalking and Honour-based Violence (DASH) Risk Identification Checklist.

– Refer a victim to a specialist domestic violence service or Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) so that they can receive the right support.

The introduction and implementation of the new DASH (2009) Model means that for the first time all police services and a large number of partner agencies across the UK will be using a common checklist for identifying and assessing risk, which will save lives. This training course aims at all agencies working in public protection with a responsibility for identifying high risk victims and high risk perpetrators and will provide an outline for referrals.
