Engagement events: Your priorities on your human rights and Welsh law

The Wales Civil Society Human Rights Stakeholder Group (HRSG) in partnership with the Observatory on Human Rights and Social Justice, Amnesty International UK, and WCVA / Human Rights Consortium Cymru invite you to attend one of our online engagement events on your rights and priorities.

The three subject areas for the engagement events are as follows:

  • Women’s and disabled people’s rights in Wales (8th October)
  • Children and older people’s rights in Wales (15th October)
  • Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic people’s rights and economic, social and cultural rights in Wales (22nd October)

We want to work with voluntary sector and civil society organisations in Wales to:

  • Develop your understanding of what incorporation of UN treaties into Welsh law is and why it matters.
  • Hear about the issues you think should be prioritised.
  • Feed in your thoughts on whether Welsh Government is taking adequate action to progress human rights in Wales and what needs to change.
  • Help develop calls to action on different UN treaties and human rights  themes (e.g. access to health, access to education, poverty, living standards etc.)

We want to hear from people with lived experience and organisations working with them to coproduce the calls to action.

Event Format

These online engagement events are designed to be inclusive and participatory.

Each event will focus on two human rights treaties. Participants will be able to choose one to discuss. We understand that people’s experiences don’t always fit neatly into each treaty so we welcome broader discussion about other themes and priorities for Human Rights in Wales in every group.

Every event will begin with a short introduction helping you develop your understanding of:

  • UN human rights treaties and conventions
  • What incorporation into Welsh law means,
  • Why incorporation matters.
