The Director of Public Health Annual Report for 2021 (‘Delivering Better Outcomes for People Through a Value-based Approach’) has just been published. In the current context of difficult economic circumstances, it has never been more important that the public sector can demonstrate best use of public money to meet the needs of our local population in a tangible and measurable way. With a spotlight on the role of prevention and outcomes that matter to people, the report explores the concept of value and the practical application of a Value-based approach for the public sector, with examples of good practice already in place in Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan and six recommendations for the future. The chapters are structured as follows:
• Chapter 1 – Introduction to value and a Value-based Approach
• Chapter 2 – The tools and techniques to deliver a Value-based Approach
• Chapter 3 – The relationship between a Value-based approach and equity
• Chapter 4 – Towards a consistent application of a Value-based approach
