Kath Hudd is the winner for the Volunteer Coordinator of the Year at the Cardiff Volunteer Awards 2025!
Kath joined NuLife Furniture in September 2024 after receiving community funding. Working part-time at NuLife and part-time as a Counsellor, Kath quickly became a trusted and compassionate presence. Her warm, kind nature helped volunteers to connect with her instantly.
Kath stands out as an exceptional Volunteer Coordinator whose compassion, empathy, and leadership have transformed the volunteer experience at NuLife. As the organisation’s first Volunteer Coordinator, funded through community benefit support, Kath has played a vital role in the charity’s growth over the past year. Despite limited resources, she has increased the volunteer team from 15 to 26, each with different needs and abilities. Kath introduced a clear and supportive structure, including volunteer agreements, wellbeing assessments, and six-weekly one-to-one check-ins to ensure every volunteer gains purpose, confidence, and value.
Since joining, Kath has recruited and inducted 32 volunteers, including students from Cardiff and Vale College, and organised Giving Back Days with Cadwyn Housing, ACT Training, and the college. Her efforts have strengthened partnerships, improved efficiency, and expanded NU Life’s capacity to support more people affected by furniture poverty. Through her inclusive approach and warm leadership, Kath has made NuLife a welcoming space where everyone from those volunteering an hour to those giving several days a week feels supported and appreciated.
Thanks to her coordination and the dedication she inspires, NuLife has saved 6,251 items from landfill, creating lasting environmental and social benefits. Kath’s passion, innovation, and commitment ensure NuLife’s volunteer programme continues to thrive and make a difference for generations.
C3SC would like to offer our congratulations to Kath once again for this great achievement, which will no doubt be motivation to continuing on to support volunteers in our city.
