Case Study: MENFA Mentoring for All

Established in 1997, MENFA (short for Mentoring for All) empowers deprived adults and youths through tailored educational support, mentorship, and summer programmes, fostering academic success and personal development for a brighter future.

Over the years, the organisation has evolved to address the changing needs and challenges of the community, fostering a lasting impact on the lives of young people who receive the support. The Butetown area has been of particular focus, with MENFA uplifting those from Black and Ethnic backgrounds residing in the area to excel academically and professionally. MENFA has been previously successful in C3SC funding as well as The National Lottery funding but as the projects continue to grow, they needed more volunteers to support their vision.

In response, our Volunteer Centre Support Officer Magda Thomas helped MENFA to set up a profile on the Volunteering-Wales platform before creating a volunteering opportunity to sought out teachers, students and those who have an excellent academic background interested in giving back to the community.

From the platform alone, MENFA received over 30 volunteers to assist two projects – My Club and Child Play. In addition, C3SC signposted the organisation to training that could be undertaken to further develop and grow the projects taking place.

When reflecting on what they do, MENFA told us, ‘We’ve witnessed transformations in young lives, from academic success to newfound confidence. MENFA’s tailored support empowers our community’s youths, opening doors they never knew existed.’

With the culturally rich history and diversity that Butetown has to offer, we’re pleased to hear from MENFA as they continue to inspire a new generation of ambitious and hopeful youths and adults.
