We are deeply shocked by the recent social media attacks aimed at Welsh Refugee Council and the maltreatment of WRC staff following the recent spread of misinformation. As a valued member of the voluntary and community sector, Welsh Refugee Council staff, volunteers, trustees and supporters have dedicated their time to providing vital services and advocating for the rights of people and families across Wales who are refugees and asylum seekers. We fear that the tireless efforts and commitments of the charity will be completely undermined following the circulation of false and damaging information.
Such spread of misinformation is not only destructive but undermines every effort taken by Welsh Refugee Council to help individuals and provide services that whilst challenging, are rewarding, and require a great deal of compassion, understanding, resilience and commitment.
We stand firmly with Welsh Refugee Council and offer our full support to their staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to support the most vulnerable people in our society to rebuild their lives. The recent spread of misinformation is a clear demonstration of the harm that can be caused by the spread of unfounded narratives. We urge everyone to make every effort to seek out the facts first and challenge misinformation particularly about organisations like Welsh Refugee Council who are contributing so positively to our society.
