Each year, C3SC runs a Cardiff Youth Led Grant scheme funded by Welsh Government to enable more young people to get into volunteering.
C3SC recently caught up with the Skills and Volunteering Cymru Young Carers Club. We awarded funding to SVC in July 2024 and we were delighted to learn that the Club was able to continue its programme of trips for young carers, offering young people the chance to build their independence, develop new skills, and connect with peers in a safe and supportive environment. SVC’s project is entirely volunteer-led by a dedicated group of voluntary helpers – and not only has the project retained their key team members, they have gone on to recruit nine more volunteers!
The funding has supported the project to tackle two key challenges that were identified as barriers for volunteers – transport costs and volunteers lacking confidence in how best to support young people. Through the YLG funding, the project has been able to support travel expenses to enable more volunteers to have the peace of mind to participate inclusively, and has paid for the volunteers to have tailored training in ‘Child Protection and Challenging Behaviour’ to develop their skills and confidence to undertake their roles. In feedback, the volunteers have said they feel ‘supported’ and ‘enjoy being part of the club.’
It is inspiring to hear about all the positive things our YLG awardees have been doing, and we can’t wait to share the next updates with you – stay tuned!
