I’m from West Wales, but I’ve lived in Splott longer than I’ve lived anywhere else. I love Splott so much that I bought a house here in 2010, and I’ve lived in this house longer than any other.

I’m driven by wanting to help others do their best work and to see communities thrive. I left a finance-related job in 2008 and joined RNIB Cymru where I did everything from managing volunteers, to delivering school assemblies. I sort of fell into Communications and became their first Comms Officer. I then joined amazing charity Tenovus Cancer Care as the first Storyteller in the third sector in Wales. This is the coolest job title I’ve ever had! I collected the stories of people affected by cancer, and told them in words, photographs and film.

I spent eight years outside the third sector in the civil service. I really missed the glow you get from working in the third sector, so being back doing what I love has made me realise how much I value the creativity, connection and purpose that comes from community-based work. Being Comms & Engagement Co-ordinator at Splott Community Volunteers has made that feeling grow stronger, and I’m keen to do more. I’m incredibly lucky, and very privileged, to work with such a supportive and inspiring CEO in Lynne Thomas, and I genuinely love being her second-in-command, helping bring ideas to life.

Taking the next step in becoming a trustee feels like a natural extension of that. I love helping people turn good ideas into things that actually happen, and I want to use my experience to help other organisations do the same. C3SC has a unique role in supporting and connecting Cardiff’s third sector, and I’m excited to bring my experience of working at community level while learning from the incredible range of organisations and people across the city. I’m really looking forward to rolling up my sleeves, contributing strategically, and doing my bit to help Cardiff’s communities thrive.
