Second one-day festival to offer practical advice on ground-up opportunities to those from all backgrounds and locations
Bursaries to cover travel costs now available
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Wales, BAFTA Cymru, have announced today that they are pledging additional support to assist those from all backgrounds and locations across Wales to engage with their flagship one-day festival Guru Live Cardiff on 30 March.
The festival offers practical advice on careers in the film, games and television industry through masterclasses, workshops, round table discussions and a chance for individuals to meet creative professionals and their peers.
The event will build on the events programme BAFTA Cymru offers the public year-round, 38% of which were held outside Cardiff in 2018.
Tickets to the sessions have been subsidised and reduced to £10 for 2 sessions or £6 for 1 session. The event has been planned to start and end at times that allow for travel from around Wales and those who would like to attend and gain information and inspiration but find there is a financial barrier to doing so are invited to apply for bursaries that will offer up to £80 towards travel and 5 sessions for free.

“BAFTA Cymru is committed to helping those from all backgrounds and parts of Wales to find their place in the creative media industry if this is their goal.
The recent BFI Workforce Diversity in the UK Screen Sector Evidence Review found that in locations that are economically less prosperous or have fewer creative industries employers, young people are less likely to think of a creative career as a viable option for two reasons. Firstly, limited local creative industries activity and therefore exposure to this particular type of economic production leads to perceptions of careers in these areas as not providing secure enough employment. Secondly, young people from creative industries cold spots felt they would have a credibility problem trying to establish a creative career elsewhere. We’re eager to play a small role in the work being done by many industry partners to bridge this gap by offering support for those across Wales to attend the Guru Live event to meet and hear from BAFTA recognised talent and continue to engage with them through our year-round events programme across the country and online.”
The final deadline to apply will be 15 March. Those interested are asked to complete a simple application form online.
Eligibility check
BAFTA Cymru would like to support individuals who would not otherwise be able to attend Guru Live Cardiff with financial assistance towards travel costs.
- Up to £80 is available per person towards rail and bus travel, which we will book for you in advance
- The reimbursement of mileage costs is .35p per mile.
- You must be available to take part in the Guru Live Cardiff event if selected (from 11:30 – 18:30 on Saturday 30 March 2019)
- Those receiving a bursary will be able to book a maximum of 5 sessions for free (dependent on availability).
- Accommodation and food costs are not included.
The deadline for final applications is Friday 15 March, 12pm.
Applications are open to those who are:
- 16+
- Living in Wales
Please note priority will be offered to those not in education, employment or training; those with dependants; those having protected characteristics and/or those living outside the CF postcode.
