Welcome to your news and events update

There’s no denying that our lovely, warm Summer is over and Autumn very much has its feet under the table! Which of course, brings its own delights and pleasures, particularly when cycling around Bute Park and Pontcanna Fields. And we have a few things up our sleeve here at Pedal Power to help ease the transition in to Winter and keep people active and connected.

Remembering Heather Rose

We’re very sad that one of our regular members, Heather Rose, died recently. When Heather first came to us in 2023 she was on crutches, having broken her back in 2022. She quickly moved from a recumbent trike back to two wheels and started coming to our group rides every week. On a ride to Castell Coch in 2024 she was one of the few who managed to cycle all the way up to the top, and as always, she had a big smile on her face! This is how all the group remember her – always smiling, whatever the weather.

Her funeral is on Monday 19th October. If anyone who knows her would like details please speak to Hilary or email her at: training@cardiffpedalpower.org.uk

He’s a Record Breaker, yeah!

We’d like to say…THANK YOU!! AND CONGRATULATIONS!!! to Pedal Power ambassador, James Coxon, for his successful World Record attempt.

James first came to Pedal Power after acquiring a rare form of motor neurone disease (MND) that affects his right arm and shoulder. Always a keen cyclist, James was able to return to cycling on one of our recumbent trikes, and has since achieved lots of impressive sporting successes.

This September he set his sights on breaking the Master’s World Record for the greatest distance ridden in one hour on a two-wheel recumbent cycle. And guess what? He did it!

James also used the event to fundraise for Pedal Power – if you’d like to make a donation to his campaign, please click HERE

From a first ride at Pedal Power to world champion and record holder, James’s story is a powerful example of the life-changing impact of inclusive cycling, and the opportunities it can create for disabled riders.

The Pedal Power unwanted gift card amnesty

And whilst we’re in the subject of supporting Pedal Power, if anyone has any gift cards/vouchers that you just know you’re never going to redeem, please give them to us! We promise to put them to good use in ways that only support our charity.

You’ll find boxes at reception and in our cafe for you to put any unwanted gift cards/vouchers. Thank you!
