‘Learning to Talk – Learning to Learn’

An active and practical, 1 day course for all health and childcare workers. Equipping you with the knowledge, skills and tools to build Language and Communication in your Early Years settings. Enabling you to give children the best possible start.

What will you learn?

What you’ll learn:

  • Acquire core strategies for developing interaction and language skills for all children in your setting.
  • Develop your confidence and knowledge of speech, language and communication development in children aged 0-5
  • Discover the normal stages of speech and language development
  • Identify when to be concerned about a child
  • Learn how to describe their difficulties and how to make a referral to the Speech and Language Therapy Service
  • Develop an Action Plan, to support a specific child you work with
  • Gain the confidence to discuss a child’s difficulties with their parents/ carers and other professionals.

How you’ll learn:

You’ll be actively involved in the learning process using:

  • Video footage with real life examples of strategies in use
  • Practical tasks to reinforce learning
  • Small group work
  • Discussion of real life events from your setting with support in problem solving
  • Role Play
  • Detailed handout for all participants.

Who should attend?

Anyone working in early years settings.
