6 Tips to Tackle the Media

1) Get into their heads

What makes them tick? Putting yourself in the shoes of the journalist can allow you to meet their needs and help them to help you.

2) Conquer your fear

Applying confidence techniques will help you to calm down and mentally prepare to pitch like a professional.

3) Turn your press release into a communications plan

Have a strategy. Impress your boss and boost your chances of success by breaking the task into a manageable step-by-step plan of attack.

4) Keep it simple

Learn the simple structure for a press release that will allow you to showcase your story without unnecessary complications.

5) Aim for clarity

Successful communication will get you the response you’re looking for and leave journalists asking, “please tell me more…” Learn how to get the key points across concisely, to include the relevant facts and leave the rest out.

6) Treat the journalist like a long-term partner

Working with the media is about building a relationship with the press. This will allow you to develop a reputation as an organisation to be valued for the long term and should form part of a sustainable publicity strategy.
