Supporting Digital Inclusion in Cardiff: C3SC and Cardiff & Vale UHB Partnership Success

Between January and June 2025, C3SC partnered with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB) to deliver a successful pilot of the NHS Wales App Volunteer Scheme. This initiative aimed to increase awareness and uptake of the NHS Wales App—an important digital tool for managing health services—particularly among communities at risk of digital exclusion.
C3SC led the recruitment, training, and coordination of nine volunteer Digital Champions, many of whom came from ethnically diverse backgrounds and spoke multiple languages including Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, and Ukrainian. These volunteers hosted 21 drop-in sessions across GP surgeries and community venues in the South East Cardiff Cluster, engaging 142 individuals and directly supporting 26 people to register and log into the App.
The scheme helped bridge digital gaps by offering hands-on support to those unfamiliar with the App, including older adults and people with limited digital literacy. Volunteers also gathered valuable feedback on barriers to access, which has been shared with Digital Health and Care Wales to inform future improvements.
Thanks to this collaborative effort, the project not only strengthened digital inclusion and reduced pressure on GP practices, but also laid the groundwork for expanding similar initiatives across Cardiff. C3SC is proud to have played a key role in enabling community-led health engagement and looks forward to supporting further developments in digital health access.
