Reminiscence Training – Museum Wales

MonLife Heritage Learning is offering free training sessions across Wales to help support people living with dementia through the safe use of museum objects. Led by Karin Molson, the sessions will explore how to create engaging reminiscence experiences using museum displays and questioning techniques.
Sessions run from 5 August to 3 September 2025 at venues including Caerleon, Cardiff, Swansea, and Blaenafon. Refreshments and lunch are provided, and travel support is available.

Make a difference to the lives of those Living with Dementia through the safe use of museum objects in reminiscence

Objects are wonderful and powerful tools for stimulating conversation, prompting recall of lived experience and triggering memory.

Join Karin Molson from MonLife Heritage Learning and discover:

  • how to use objects to create safe and engaging reminiscence experiences
  • how to use museum displays in reminiscence
  • questioning techniques to engage and encourage participation
  • hints and tips for group session facilitation

Karin has worked in museums and galleries for over 30 years and has developed a number of programmes, resources and training packages to support people to live well with Dementia.

When:

  • National Roman Legion Museum (Caerleon, Nr Newport, NP18 1AE) on 5th August from 10:30am – 3:30pm – 16 spaces remaining
  • St Fagans National Museum of History (Cardiff, CF5 6XB) on 12th August from 10am – 3pm – 19 spaces remaining
  • National Waterfront Museum (Oystermouth Road, Maritime Quarter, Swansea, SA1 3RD) on 19th August from 10am – 3pm – 9 spaces remaining
  • National Museum Cardiff (Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3NP) on 26th August from 10am – 3pm – 19 spaces remaining
  • Big Pit (Blaenafon, Torfaen, NP4 9XP) on 3rd September from 10am – 3pm – 5 spaces remaining

 

Food and drink

  • Should you wish to join us, refreshments will be served 30 minutes before the beginning of your session
  • A light lunch will also be provided
