Please find below an invitation to a roundtable event in the Senedd to mark the new civil society report on the implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in England and Wales, kindly sponsored and chaired by John Griffiths AM.

The report contains evidence and recommendations relating to a number of issues that are relevant to the Convention in England and Wales, including: asylum and immigration, other forms of deprivation of liberty, including in health care settings, human trafficking, prisons, policing and the ill-treatment of children.

The report has been endorsed by over 70 civil society organisations and individuals.

TORTURE AND ILL-TREATMENT IN ENGLAND AND WALES: The UK’s upcoming examination by the UN Committee against Torture

Wednesday 1 May, 12-13.30

The discussion will take place in the context of the launch of the new civil society report on the implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in England and Wales. The report has been endorsed by over 70 leading civil society organisations and individuals.

The report contains evidence and recommendations relating to a number of issues that are relevant to the Convention, including: asylum and immigration, other forms of deprivation of liberty, including in health care settings, human trafficking, prisons, policing and the ill-treatment of children.

The UN Committee against Torture is due to examine the UK and devolved governments on the 7-8 May 2019. The discussion will cover the key findings of the report and key next steps for Assembly Members.

Mae disgwyl i Bwyllgor y Cenhedloedd Unedig yn erbyn Arteithio archwilio’r DU a llywodraethau datganoledig ar 7-8 Mai 2019. Bydd y drafodaeth yn ystyried prif ganfyddiadau’r adroddiad a’r camau nesaf allweddol i Aelodau’r Cynulliad.
