The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales has launched a new guide for older people, which provides crucial information about our rights when moving into and living in a care home.
The guide is designed to help older people and their families better understand the rights they have and includes information on a range of topics that are often of great concern:
- Making decisions about care
- Visiting and contact with family members
- Access to services such as health services
- Paying for care
The guide also provides information about what older people and their families can do if they are concerned that their rights are not being upheld and provides details of organisations that can offer help and support, including the Commissioner’s own Advice and Assistance team.
We want the guide to reach as many older people and their families throughout Wales as possible and would be grateful if you are able to help us promote and distribute the guide. You can do this in a number of ways:
- Make paper copies of the guide available in community spaces alongside other information leaflets you display
- Display a poster in community spaces to promote the guide
- Make a digital copy available on your website, or include a link to the guide
- Share the guide with your contacts / networks via email
- Use social media to promote and share the guide with your followers
All of the digital resources you’ll need are attached, including a PDF version of the guide and poster, as well as suggested social media posts and images. The guide can also be downloaded here:https://olderpeople.wales/resource/commissioner-launches-new-guide-on-older-peoples-rights-in-care-homes/
