Minority Ethnic Communities (MEC) Health Fair 2025: Celebrating Diversity in Health Care

C3SC again enjoyed the opportunity to chair the annual Minority Ethnic Communities Health Fair 2025 which took place in October at Fitzalan High School. The event, which aims to help tackle health inequalities, welcomed nearly 300 attendees from diverse communities in Cardiff. Attendees were able to receive health and wellbeing information first hand from over 65 stall holders, and take advantage of the childcare provision on-site to enable them to fully participate. Visitors accessed free health checks, engaged in a range of workshops – such as stress management and diabetes awareness, and participated in Q&A sessions with health professional, with the women-only Q&A session being very popular.

Anna Ros Woudstra, C3SC’s Participation and Engagement Coordinator and Event Chair said the Fair ‘was made possible thanks to the efforts of a dedicated Steering Group of committed partners, and with over 30 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds supporting on the day. This reflects the heart of the Fair – celebrating diversity and supporting every voice to be heard so more health needs are met!’

With the lingering impacts of a global pandemic and austerity deepening health inequalities, the Fair provided a great opportunity to highlight the importance of equal partnerships between the statutory and third sector to build the long-term, sustainable solutions that are necessary to truly meet everyone’s needs. The event enabled partners to learn from one another, ask questions, and build bridges across communities and services – as the following quotes reflect:

“(The Health Fair) has enabled our service to engage not only with visitors but also charities to learn what other services and activities are available in the community.

Great for networking and understanding other groups out there to signpost patients to

It has helped us increase our reach and engagement with a wide range of communities
