This NewLink Wales course is specifically for people who have undertaken a two-day Motivational Interviewing course within the last 4 years and want to refresh and update their knowledge and skills. All too often practitioners attend a two-day course and several months later they either forget all about it, or can’t quite remember what they did and how to put it into practice. If you are that person – this course is for you!

This course will provide learners with:

• A clear understanding of the goals, concepts, processes and skills of Motivational Interviewing.
• A chance to practice the skills with pre-prepared scenarios and your own material.
• An opportunity to identify, distinguish and encourage the types of language that predict behaviour change.
• A chance to explore how workers and clients contribute to discord in the relationship (formerly described as ‘resistance’).
• A chance to reflect on the different types of settings and behaviour changes this approach can be utilised with.
• An opportunity to evaluate the potential effectiveness of applying this approach in your work
