Aim
– To develop an understanding of asylum and refugee issues; 
– To better enable providers to deliver services which meet the needs of refugees and asylum seekers   Learning ObjectivesBy the end of the session you will be able to understand:
– Understand what is meant by types of leave, that is, Humanitarian Protection, Discretionary Leave and Indefinite Leave to Remain.
– The reasons why people leave their countries and claim asylum. 
– How many asylum applications are made in the UK
– How a claim for asylum is made
– The barriers on the way to protection 
– Entitlements to support
– What happens when an asylum seeker gets a positive decision
– Employment, health and education issues
– How to challenge stereotypes
