Reducing Accidents in Early Years Childcare Settings
This Children in Wales course is aimed at childminders and practitioners in settings such as Day Nurseries, Playgroups and Home Settings.
Unintentional injuries are very common, particularly in the early years age group. In fact, in Wales every year, nearly 25,000 under 5s attend accident and emergency departments as the result of an accident. The sad fact is that around 90% of these accidents are preventable.
Whilst the course does not cover the legal requirements and standards for registered settings, it does provide invaluable information for keeping the children in your care safe and free from accidents. The course will also give you a greater understanding of safety, a knowledge of effective interventions and dispel a number of myths around accidents.
The course will include:
An overview of common accidentsAn understanding of how these accidents happenSafety without compromising child developmentEffective interventionsThe 3 Es of injury preventionPractical sessions on understanding and assessing risk
The practical risk assessment session will provide a useful tool for you to take back to use in your settings. To get the most out of this session, delegates are welcome to bring along examples of accidents that have occurred or examples that may be of concern within settings.
Delegates will receive course handouts, notes and certificate of training. The course qualifies for 6 Core Hours CPD points.
