Policy Forum for Wales Keynote Seminar: The future of healthcare services in Wales
This seminar will bring together key policymakers and stakeholders from across the health and social care sectors in Wales to discuss the future regulation, organisation and delivery of services.
It is timed to assess healthcare policy priorities for the new Welsh Government and the expected White Paper on the future for NHS Wales, and follows the Green Paper: Our Health, Our Health Service which proposed:
- Structural changes to the organisation of services to improve the focus on preventative care;
- Applying new common standards across independent, voluntary and NHS provided care;
- Changes to the regulation and inspection system in Wales; and
- Increased sharing of patient data and best working practices across the NHS.
Overall, areas for discussion include:
- The vision for NHS Wales – the likely impact of the White Paper and the priorities for reform under the new Welsh Government;
- Service reconfiguration – challenges for reorganising services to focus on prevention and delivering social care integration;
- Regulatory reform – new common standards for care, minimum staffing requirements and a new regulatory regime for health services across Wales; and
- Improving quality – increasing the role of the patient voice; using patient information sharing to join-up services and embedding a culture of sharing best practice across Wales.
Speakers: Dr Kate Chamberlain, Chief Executive, Health Inspectorate Wales and Ewan Hilton, Gofal; Dr Paul Myres, Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Wales and RCGP Wales and a speaker confirmed from the Board of Community Health Councils in Wales.
