Formal Advocacy – advocating for children and young people as part of a wider role
Agored Cymru – Level 3 (7 Credits)
The Welsh Government’s Guidance to the Model for Delivering Advocacy Services for Children and Young People in Wales 2011 identifies a range of professionals who work with children and young people who are able to advocate on their behalf. These professionals include Youth Workers, Teachers, School Nurses, Play Workers and Care Workers etc.
This Tros Gynnal Plant course will help ‘Formal Advocates’ to further develop an understanding of the advocacy process and gain recognition for the function and the skills they are already evidencing in practice.
The course will cover:
– Responding to requests for advocacy support
– Providing advocacy support
– Assisting children and young people to explore choices
– Understanding Children’s Rights Legislation
– Engaging with other professionals as a Formal Advocate
– Using systems to keep children and young people safe
