Half-day Children in Wales course

Problems with food can begin when it is used to cope with those times when you are bored, anxious, angry, lonely, ashamed or sad. Food becomes a problem when it it used to help you cope with painful situations or feelings, or to relieve stress, perhaps without you even realizing it (B-EAT). One in five people diagnosed with anorexia will die from it. This course provides basic knowledge for anyone working with children or young people.

What the course will cover:

  • Types of eating disorders and prevalence
  • Self esteem and body image
  • Screening and working with risk
  • NICE guidance
  • Preventive approaches

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Describe different types of eating disorder
  • Reflect on risk and casual factors
  • Identify children and young people who are particularly vulnerable
  • Develop strategies to increase resilience
