DEAFBLIND AWARENESS – Espresso Plus Session
Cardiff Council is running four half-day sessions (two on Thursday 15 May and two on Thursday 22 May):
AM Session 9.30am – 12.30pm
PM Session 1.30pm – 4.30pm
Course facilitator: Michael Power – Sense Cymru
After completing this course participants will have knowledge of:
– Cardiff’s Legal Responsibility towards Deafblind People in their area
– How Deafblindness can affect a person’s ability to communicate, access information and their mobility by experiencing Deafblindness through simulation exercises.
– The impact of Deafblindness on an individual
– The authority’s internal processes –Identification, assessment, services, one-to-one support workers, information and senior management
– Services that are offered to deafblind people, families, carers and professionals working with them
In addition, participants will have knowledge of:
· The Sense Sensory Impairment monitoring Scale (SSIMS)
· How to monitor older people who live in care homes for any signs of hearing and/or vision loss
· What action to take if there are concerns about hearing and/or vision of one of your residents
