This year’s annual Co-operative Cymru/Wales Conference – in association with the Institute of Welsh Affairs – will explore the benefits that co-operative principles and practice can bring to the Welsh education system. Co-operative learning is a distinctive teaching strategy that is increasingly used in schools and colleges around the world. It is based on the principle that learning is often most effective when learners can think and talk together, share ideas, and question, analyse and solve problems together. It is also reflected in the way education institutions are managed and influences their relationship with parents and the wider community.

The conference will provide an opportunity for educationalists and the co-operative movement to share and discuss how co-operative education is being interpreted and developed across the UK.

The conference will feature speakers and practical sessions from educationalists in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland as well as from Wales. It will also enable a discussion as to which aspects, across the broad spectrum of what is termed co-operative education, may be appropriate to Wales and can begin to identify a Welsh way of embracing the most appropriate aspects of co-operative education.
