To give participants an understanding of the legal structures available (including the CIO), how to decide which structure is right for their organisation, and what is specifically involved in becoming a CIO if that structure is chosenContentThis course will cover:
– a brief overview of charitable status, and its advantages and restrictions;
– a brief overview of unincorporated and incorporated structures, and the advantages and disadvantages of each;
– for unincorporated organisations, issues to consider when deciding whether to remain unincorporated or to incorporate;
– the differences between charitable companies and CIOs, and how to decide which is right for their organisation and if they choose CIO, how to decide whether foundation or association model is appropriate;
– CIO model constitutions;
– the process of changing from unincorporated association or trust to CIO or converting from charitable company or Industrial & Provident Association to CIO;
– practical implications of becoming a CIO.
