Child Sexual Exploitation

Child sexual exploitation (CSE) involves under-18s in exploitative situations, contexts and relationships.   Every year in Wales hundreds of children are being sexually exploited and in the wake of learning from Rotherham and other cities, Children in Wales is offering a one day course to raise awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation.

This Children in Wales course gives anyone who works with children, young people and families the opportunity to know their statutory responsibilities in dealing with exploited children, how to identify children and young people who are at risk of CSE and spot the signs, definitions and models of CSE and professional responses within the Welsh context.

This one day course will consider:

  • Definitions of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)
  • Who is at risk
  • Who are the perpetrators
  • Vulnerabilities and risk indicators
  • Professionals responses
  • Legislation and guidance on CSE
  • SERAF – the Welsh response to CSE
  • Consent
  • Impact of CSE on children, families/carers and siblings
  • Lessons from Rotherham
  • Effective working and partnerships
  • Prevention and education
