Cardiff and Vale University Health Board engagement sessions
Recently, the health board has been looking at its services for older people, as part of its longer term plans to make sure that more of the care people receive is based as close to home as possible where appropriate, rather than in hospitals.
This is all part of the health board’s ambition, along with Cardiff Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council, to provide services for older people that are more integrated, less disjointed, more convenient and, ultimately, better for older people.
We are currently discussing our ideas to improve some hospital services with patients, their carers and families, stakeholders and the public more generally, and asking for feedback.
The themes under discussion relate specifically to services currently provided at West Wing in Cardiff city centre, as well as some services at St David’s Hospital, Barry Hospital and Rookwood Hospital. Our ideas have been developed by specialist elderly care clinicians from our Clinical Gerontology Directorate and we believe these ideas will help improve services for older people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
