A series of Emergency First Aid at work courses are available in the coming months, open amongst others to staff and volunteers from voluntary organisations and informal/unpaid carers. Details are as follows:

AIM(S): To provide learners with the basic skills in order to offer emergency assistance for those identified as requiring it.

OBJECTIVES: Learners will be able to:

Identify the roles and responsibilities of a first aider and appointed person, how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others and the need for consent to provide first aid
To discuss and demonstrate the DRABCD approach to managing first aid
Demonstrate the following:
adult CPR using a manikin
placing a casualty into the recovery position
monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position
Identify and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is:
Choking
Displaying signs of a seizure
Presenting with an external bleed
suffering from shock
Presenting with different types of wounds, minor burns and scolds
