As the season brings longer days and brighter skies, we’re continuing our mission to support older people across Cardiff and the Vale with services that make a real difference. Whether it’s a helping hand with shopping, a friendly chat, or practical support at home, we’re here to help.

If you know someone who could benefit from our befriending or shopping support services, it’s now easier than ever to refer them through our secure online forms. This direct approach allows us to process referrals swiftly, getting support to those who need it, fast.

Nail Cutting Service Update

We’re currently running clinics in various locations in Cardiff and in Highlight Park Medical Practice in Barry. 

For referrals, please email nailcutting@ageconnectscardiff.org.uk or call 02922 331113.

George Hill Snook

The George Hill Snook Grant, managed by Age Connects, offers financial support of up to £500 to help individuals aged 60 and over in Cardiff who are unable to afford essential household items or aids for daily living. This funding can be used for the purchase or repair of key items such as microwaves, fridges, beds, and other items necessary to maintain a comfortable and independent lifestyle. Applications must be submitted by a third-party sponsor, typically a social worker, healthcare professional, or a representative from the third sector.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be 60 years or older.
  • The grant is only available to residents of Cardiff.
  • Funds can be used for the purchase or repair of essential household items or daily living aids (e.g., kitchen appliances, furniture, mobility aids).

 

Application Process:

  • Applications must be submitted by a third-party sponsor, such as a social worker, healthcare professional, or a representative from a third-sector organization (e.g., charity or non-profit).
  • The maximum grant amount is £500.

 

LEAP – The Money and Energy Saving Service 

We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) to offer a free service that can:

  • Save money on energy bills
  • Provide FREE equipment and improvements to make your home energy efficient
  • Help access funding for insulation, heating, and boilers
  • Give you energy saving advice and tips

The service is available to anyone with a household income below £31K or in receipt of a range of benefits. Call 0800 060 7567 to arrange a visit from an Age Connects Energy Advisor.
